Assembly Item - The Human Brain

Today we will be showing this video at our senior assembly.  We made the connection that our brains work like a traffic light and wanted to share this with other learners in the school.

Our Lighthouse Narratives

We have been looking at how to write narratives!  We made the connection to stories where a narrative has to have the following parts:
  • A beginning;
  • A middle; and,
  • An ending

We also looked at how we can introduce and describe both the characters and the setting.  A narrative has to have a problem and a solution so please see if you can find out what these are in each of our narratives.

We watched this animation and created our own narratives from watching it.

We also created our own lighthouses to add to the detail we used in our narratives - hope you can come and read them when you're next in the hub!

Identity Art Up In The Hub!

As we mentioned in our last assembly item, we were working together to get our identity art up on the walls as permanent parts of our hub.

We were determined to achieve this goal and today they went up!  They look amazing - ka pai to everyone who helped collaborate to get these finished.

Our Wonder Wall of Wow Words

As a hub we chose to explore some of our literacy progressions as an independent activity while we were swimming.

This activity allowed us to explore terms like synonyms and also allowed us to practice using a thesaurus to find different and impactful ways to describe the same word.

We wanted to put these up in the hub where we could use our wonder learner quality to explore these words when we are writing.

Fable Writing

WALHT: Write A Fable.

We made our connections with both  recount and narrative writing to investigate fables.  We were able to find out that a fable is a short story that often has a problem and solution.  We also explored the use of storytelling to pass on messages, especially morals or life lessons.

Please come in and read our fables - there will be more being published throughout the term!

Welcome to Akomanga Whitu!

We have already been at school for a week and we are having so much fun in our new hub.

We have been focusing on building "Our Place" as we get to know each other.  We also are getting to know our teachers: Mrs Prasad, Mr Cadelis, Mrs Phillips and Mr Lewzey.

We are looking forward to displaying elements of our learning through the hub blog so please come back to see other parts of our learning throughout the next year.
